art always seems to be let go first...

Wed Apr 1, 2009, 6:14 PM
yey economy! Because of the recent economic crisis, Brandeis University's Rose Art Museum has decided to close its doors with the arrival of summer. This decision saddened the art world, as well as stunned local art leaders. They are auctioning off their 6,000 piece collection in order to support recent renovations, but the rose will not go down without a fight. The family of the museum’s benefactors strongly opposes the decision, as well as the public. Because of this, Brandeis have backtracked their decision, and claimed the museum will remain open, but as a private museum. The debate is ongoing, so let's hope for the best.

On a lighter note, a bill was presented by the House Appropriations Committee that includes 10 million dollars for both the N.E.A and the N.E.H. This demonstrates the importance of the arts and humanities, even in a time of such economic strain. However, if the bill passes, will the nation view art and humanities as a scapegoat? Or will the bill be supported thus making art prosperous.. I guess time will tell..
